By 2029, the American carmaker intends to introduce five new models at once, which should help the brand regain lost positions in Europe after the cessation of production of such popular cars as the Fiesta and Focus. The main news is the return of the Ford Fiesta.
The legendary compact car, which for many years was one of the best-selling cars in Europe, should return in 2028. The new Fiesta will be fully electric and is being created in cooperation with Renault. It is expected to be based on the AmpR Small platform, which is already used for the Renault 5 and some other compact electric cars. Despite the common technical base, Ford promises to maintain the model’s own design and brand driving characteristics.
An equally important element of the new strategy will be the European Bronco. Unlike the classic American SUV, the new model will be a mid-size crossover aimed at the mass market in Europe. Its production is planned to be carried out at a plant in the Spanish city of Valencia.
The car will have a more rugged exterior, inspired by the American Bronco, and will be available with both hybrid and electric powertrains. In addition, Ford is preparing two new compact electric cars, one of which may become the successor to the current Puma. Also, two more crossovers are expected to appear by 2029, with different types of powertrains, from hybrid to fully electric.
Thus, the company is moving away from the previous strategy of full electrification and is betting on a more flexible approach, taking into account the real preferences of European buyers. The reasons for such a turn are quite understandable. Ford's sales in Europe have declined significantly in recent years.
While the company sold more than a million cars annually in 2019, volumes have recently fallen to about 430,000. Amid growing competition from European and Chinese manufacturers, Ford has decided to return to the most sought-after market segments, where it was once particularly strong.
