 Alen Simonian stated this during a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly. "Ruben Rubinyan was the best candidate who could replace me as the Speaker of the National Assembly. I wish him success. He is my friend, and I continue to consider him my friend. I am very happy that I have worked with him."

"I wish that he becomes the second President of the National Assembly who will serve his term until the end," Simonian said. The board of the "Civil Contract" party elected Ruben Rubinyan, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Armenia's representative in the Armenia-Turkey normalization process, as the candidate for the position of the head of the newly formed parliament on June 25 through a closed vote.

Among the candidates were also the current Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, and the head of the "Civil Contract" faction in the National Assembly, Hayk Konjoryan.
