Russia again expands ban on Armenian agricultural imports
Russia has further expanded its ban on Armenian goods, applying it to the import of pome fruits, eggplants, potatoes, and dried fruits, as well as to the transit of this produce to EAEU countries.
Russia’s state agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, said in a press release that it is introducing temporary restrictions on imports due to the absence of phytosanitary regulatory mechanisms.
It is stated that the restrictions will remain in force until an appropriate algorithm is developed to ensure that shipped goods meet safety standards.
In a press release, Russia’s state agricultural watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, earlier said that imports of cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, and grapes from Armenia will be banned until further notice, effective June 2, 2026. Russia has previously banned imports of Jermuk mineral water from Armenia, as well as certain flowers and alcoholic beverages. In addition, imports of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and strawberries from Armenia have been restricted. Most businesses engaged in fish farming have also been barred from exporting products to Russia.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Tuesday that the government will launch support programs for businesses affected by the Russian ban on Armenian goods.
Armenia’s Ministry of Economy has developed a relief program designed to help Armenian producers expand exports to the European Union as the country seeks to diversify its trade markets amid the Russian ban.
Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said that Armenian exportable fruits and vegetables have GlobalG.A.P. certification, which is one of the highest-level international standards.
