Armenia, Kazakhstan FMs discuss strategic partnership, regional cooperation
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held talks with visiting Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev in Yerevan on April 9, focusing on advancing bilateral strategic partnership and deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
The ministers first met in a one-on-one format, followed by expanded discussions involving their respective delegations.
Opening the meeting, Mirzoyan highlighted the steady and positive trajectory of Armenia–Kazakhstan relations, noting that recent high-level contacts and joint initiatives have provided additional momentum to bilateral cooperation.
He emphasized that the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries in November last year — during Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s official visit to Kazakhstan — marked an important milestone. According to Mirzoyan, the agreements reached during that visit are now being consistently implemented, laying a solid foundation for further deepening of ties.
Mirzoyan also underscored the importance of strengthening connectivity, particularly through the development of transport and logistics infrastructure. He pointed to Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative as a key framework for enhancing regional economic potential and fostering interregional cooperation.
The Armenian foreign minister reaffirmed Yerevan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Central Asia, especially Kazakhstan, in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and intergovernmental coordination mechanisms.
Touching on regional issues, Mirzoyan reiterated Armenia’s commitment to a peace agenda in the South Caucasus and welcomed Kazakhstan’s readiness to support efforts aimed at ensuring long-term and institutional stability in the region.
For his part, Kosherbayev described Armenia as a reliable political and trade-economic partner for Kazakhstan in the South Caucasus, emphasizing the historical ties between the two nations.
He noted that bilateral relations have been developing dynamically, citing reciprocal high-level visits — including that of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Yerevan and Pashinyan’s visit to Astana — as key milestones.
Kosherbayev highlighted the signing of the joint declaration on strategic partnership during the Astana visit, calling it a significant step that will further strengthen bilateral relations and open a new chapter in multifaceted cooperation.
The meeting also addressed initiatives aimed at advancing the Armenia–Kazakhstan strategic partnership, with particular focus on boosting trade and economic ties as well as business engagement between the two countries.
