Ara Malikian postpones Yerevan concert, says returning to Armenia feels like “coming home”
The highly anticipated Yerevan concert of Spanish-based virtuoso violinist Ara Malikian has been postponed due to health issues, organizers announced. Originally scheduled for April 9, the performance will now take place on May 19 at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex. All previously purchased tickets will remain valid.
Malikian expressed regret over the delay but emphasized that he is eagerly looking forward to meeting his Armenian audience, highlighting their unique warmth and sincerity.
“For me, coming to Armenia is not just a professional visit; it carries deep personal meaning. Armenia is my homeland, part of my roots. Every time I visit, I experience a special feeling — as if I am returning home,” the violinist said.
He added that while performing on stages around the world is a great joy, Armenian audiences stand out for their emotional depth and authenticity. “They do not simply listen to the music — they live it,” Malikian noted, describing the connection as rare and deeply moving.
The musician also said that on the Armenian stage he does not feel like just an artist, but rather part of a large family.
The Yerevan concert is part of Malikian’s Intruso World Tour, during which he will be joined on stage by long-time collaborators: pianist Iván “Melón” Lewis, double bassist Iván Ruiz Machado, drummer Georvis Pico Milan, and guitarist Dayan Abad.
Together with the same group of musicians, Malikian previously performed in Yerevan in 2023 and 2024, leaving audiences with unforgettable memories.
Speaking about the upcoming concert, Malikian promised an evening full of emotion, music, and live energy. “We have prepared a program that brings together unique worlds and stories. Of course, there will be surprises, but the biggest surprise is the connection created between musicians and the audience,” he said.
According to the violinist, Intruso represents an inner journey — telling the story of moments when one feels like a stranger in the world, even to oneself, yet transforms that sense of alienation into creativity.
“I want people to see themselves in this story. I believe that at times, we all feel like intrusos,” Malikian concluded.
