Azerbaijan Successfully Advances Construction of a Railway Line Connecting to Armenia and Turkey
“Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC is successfully continuing the construction of a new railway line in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which forms part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The project envisages the reconstruction of 10 stations along a 194.1-kilometer railway line and the construction of 814 engineering structures, including 29 bridges, 4 tunnels, and 12 galleries. The first phase of design and construction works, launched at the end of last year, covers the sections of Salammalik, Ordubad, Azan, and Julfa.
“This railway line, which connects to the ‘Zangezur corridor,’ will ensure both a direct land connection between the main territory of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as access to Turkish, Armenian, and European markets. It constitutes an important segment of the ‘Middle Corridor’ and forms part of new regional transport communications, linking in Ordubad, at the border with Armenia, to the TRIPP route,” Caliber.az reports.
