Signing of the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights in the Field of the Use of Artificial Intelligence
In Strasbourg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan signed the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
The Convention is the first international legally binding treaty aimed at ensuring the protection of fundamental human rights in the application of artificial intelligence. The signing of the Convention will enable the development of the legal framework related to the use of artificial intelligence through close cooperation with international partners.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe expressed gratitude to Armenia for signing the Convention and for joining efforts to promote international cooperation in this direction.
To date, the Framework Convention has been signed by 17 countries, including member and observer states of the Council of Europe, as well as the European Union.
*The list of countries that have signed the Convention as of now includes: Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Norway, Moldova, San Marino, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom; observer states to the Council of Europe: United States, Canada, Japan; non-member states of the Council of Europe: Israel, Uruguay.
