28 Days Without Clean Air: The Level of Air Pollution in the Capital in November
According to data published on the website of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of
Armenia, in November of the previous year the maximum permissible concentration (MPC)
of dust in Yerevan’s air was exceeded on 28 days.
The maximum permissible
concentration is an indicator used by specialists to show how safe or hazardous the air is
for human health. The analysis of the data shows that in the capital the MPC was
exceeded not only for dust, but also for nitrogen dioxide for 13 days.
The same document also presents data on air quality in other cities. According to the data,
the MPC of dust in the air was exceeded for 19 days in Gyumri, 16 days in Ararat, 18 days
in Hrazdan, 15 days in Vanadzor, and 11 days in Alaverdi.
In addition to air-quality data, the document also includes the results of surface water
quality monitoring, which are no less alarming.
Surface water quality monitoring is an ongoing observation carried out by specialists,
during which the chemical and biological composition of river and lake water is periodically
examined in order to assess how safe the water is for the environment and for humans.
The results of river quality monitoring conducted in November 2025 show that water of the
first and second quality classes “excellent” and “good” was not recorded at any monitoring
point.
Instead, the majority of rivers fall under the categories of “average” (32.8%), “insufficient”
(28.1%), and “bad” (39.1%) quality.
Behind these numbers stands a worrying reality in which we live, often without giving
sufficient consideration to the importance of environmental protection and safeguarding
our health. At the same time, the competent authorities must adopt a more active and
responsible approach by ensuring effective controls and implementing steps to reduce
pollution.
