Armenia is on the EU aviation “blacklist” for technical, not political reasons: Marta Kos
The ban on flights to the European Union by aircraft registered in Armenia remains in place for technical rather than political reasons, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement told Armenian journalists during a meeting in Brussels. According to Marta Kos, Armenia has not yet taken certain steps needed in order to be removed from the EU air safety list, Azatutyun reports.
“This issue is in the hands of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency. And based on their assessment, there are certain things Armenia must do and we are in contact with Armenia’s Civil Aviation Committee. As long as everything that needs to be done has not been done, no decision has been taken,” the senior European official stated, continuing: “So once again this is a technical process, it has nothing to do with the country’s political relations, we simply want to be sure that everything will be in order in terms of safety and for that reason we have proposed targeted assistance within the Twinning process, which will then be financed. This is a specific tool through which experts from our member states, who have experience in this field, assist your Government on this issue.”
