The main news for the brand’s fans is that these cars have a completely new V8 gasoline engine, with a capacity of more than 600 horsepower. In recent years, many car manufacturers have been actively switching to hybrids and electric cars, but AMG has decided to retain its famous eight-cylinder engines. Under the hood of the updated models is a four-liter V8 engine with two turbines, which develops 604 horsepower. It is additionally assisted by a mild hybrid system, which can add another 23 horsepower during short-term acceleration. Despite the impressive dimensions, both crossovers are capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. Their maximum speed reaches 280 km/h.
AMG engineers have also worked on the “character” of the car. The new engine should respond faster to pressing the gas pedal, run smoother, and delight owners with a more expressive sound. For this, the exhaust system has been modernized, which automatically changes the sound of the engine—depending on the driving mode.
In addition, the suspension and body stabilization system have been updated. This helps heavy crossovers to make turns more confidently and makes handling sportier. The exterior of these cars has also changed.
The GLE 63 and GLS 63 have a new radiator grille, a more “aggressive” front bumper, and updated lighting. The size of the wheel rims now reaches 22 inches for the GLE and 23 inches for the GLS. In fact, Mercedes-AMG is sending a completely understandable signal to the market: despite the era of electrification, the demand for powerful gasoline cars remains high. And the legendary V8 is not going to leave the stage just yet.
