Council of Europe chief congratulates Armenians and Pashinyan following election victory

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset has congratulated Armenian voters and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following the country’s parliamentary elections.

In a statement posted on social media, Berset praised the participation of Armenian citizens in the democratic process and congratulated Pashinyan on his electoral victory. “Congratulations to every Armenian who showed up to vote. And to Nikol Pashinyan on his electoral victory,” he wrote.

The Council of Europe chief noted that the renewed mandate comes at a significant moment both for Armenia and the wider region, highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing the country.

Berset also reaffirmed the Council of Europe’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Armenia in support of democratic reforms and regional stability. “The Council of Europe will continue to deepen its partnership with Armenia in support of democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and the efforts needed to build lasting peace, stability and democratic security across the region,” he said.
