‘Historically unprecedented’: Mirzoyan hails new era in Armenia-US relations
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan hailed a new stage in Armenia–United States relations during a joint press conference in Yerevan with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing the current level of cooperation as unprecedented and emphasizing the two countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral ties.
Welcoming Rubio and the US delegation to Yerevan, Mirzoyan thanked the Secretary of State for finding time to visit Armenia despite a demanding schedule, calling the trip a strong indication of both governments’ determination to further strengthen relations.
“Our comprehensive strategic relations today are stronger than ever,” Mirzoyan said, adding that Armenia and the United States have entered a “historically unprecedented phase” marked by rapid and frequent developments across their bilateral agenda.
Mirzoyan highlighted last year’s Washington Peace Summit, hosted by US President Donald Trump on August 8, as a key turning point in regional diplomacy. According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, the summit made it possible to establish peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and led to significant agreements on the unblocking of regional transport communications.
He also pointed to subsequent milestones in bilateral cooperation. The Foreign Minister said Armenia and the United States have already undertaken commitments in several strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductor technologies and nuclear energy. During Rubio’s visit, the two countries also signed a new agreement focused on minerals and critical resources.
Mirzoyan described the most significant outcome of the talks as the decision to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level by transforming the existing strategic partnership into a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”
He said the updated framework significantly expands opportunities for cooperation, especially in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and other strategic areas.
Mirzoyan praised President Donald Trump, Secretary Rubio and the broader US administration for their role in advancing peace efforts in the South Caucasus and creating new security and economic opportunities for Armenia.
“All agreements we are now implementing and formalizing are unequivocally beneficial for the Republic of Armenia and will open unprecedented opportunities for our country,” Mirzoyan said.
