Ambassador Mkrtchyan highlights historic bonds between Armenia and Greece

A feature article published in the Sunday edition of Greek media outlet LarissaPress has highlighted the long-standing friendship and close ties between Armenia and Greece, featuring an interview with Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan. During his meeting with representatives of the publication, Ambassador Mkrtchyan spoke about the centuries-old Armenian-Greek friendship, the historical, cultural, and spiritual connections between the two nations, as well as his impressions from a visit to the Greek city of Larissa in October 2025.

The ambassador praised Larissa’s historical significance and modern development, saying he was impressed by the city’s vitality, youthful energy, and promising future. “I was very impressed by Larissa,” Ambassador Mkrtchyan said, noting that the city’s atmosphere and dynamic character left a lasting impression on him. He described Larissa as a developing city with significant potential that inspires visitors.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan noted that his visit to Larissa coincided with the city’s Liberation Day celebrations on October 23, as well as Greece’s October 28 national holiday. During the visit, he laid a wreath and held constructive meetings with Thessaly Governor Dimitris Kouretas and Larissa Mayor Athanasios Mamakos.

The interview also focused on the deep historical roots of Armenia-Greece relations, which date back to ancient times. Ambassador Mkrtchyan emphasized that Armenians and Greeks have been brought together not only by history and Christianity, but also by shared cultural values, traditions, and historical experiences.

He stressed that the many common elements between the two peoples have strengthened Armenian-Greek friendship over the years and underlined the importance of focusing on the values that unite the two nations, including mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation.

Reaffirming his admiration for Greek civilization and its people, Ambassador Mkrtchyan concluded: “What I admire in Greeks is their great spirit from the time of Homer to the present day.”
