Akhalkalak-Kars railway now accessible for Armenian cargo transportation -Pashinyan
The Akhalkalak-Kars railway has become available for Armenian exports and imports, marking what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan described as a major development for the country’s economy. In a Facebook post, Pashinyan announced that the railway route, similar to the Azerbaijani railway connection, is now open for cargo transportation from and to Armenia. “I am pleased to announce that the Akhalkalak-Kars railway, like the Azerbaijani railway, is now open for exports from Armenia and imports to Armenia. This is a major event in our country’s economic life,” Pashinyan wrote.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Armenia’s partners in Turkey and Georgia for their cooperation.
Pashinyan noted that Armenia currently has railway access to Russia through Georgia and Azerbaijan, and onward to China through Russian and Kazakh territory. He added that the newly accessible route through Georgia and Turkey now provides Armenia with rail connectivity to the European Union as well.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister said railway links between Armenia and Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the Armenia-Iran connection through Nakhijevan are also expected to open in the near future.
According to Pashinyan, these developments are expected to materialize through the implementation of the TRIPP project, which he said will further expand regional transport connectivity and integration.
