Armenia opens Honorary Consulate in Nepal
Armenia’s Honorary Consulate was opened in Nepal on Thursday, May 22. In his remarks at the event, Armenian Ambassador Vahagn Afyan highly praised the activities of Armenia’s Honorary Consul in Nepal, Kiran Malla, and referred to the rich ancient civilizational, historical, and cultural heritage of the two countries, as well as the promising opportunities for deepening cooperation in tourism, education, information technologies, trade, investment, agriculture, renewable energy, and culture.
Ambassador Afyan also noted that Armenia and Nepal are dynamically developing cooperation within international organizations, where both countries continue to support constructive dialogue, peaceful coexistence, sustainable development, and mutual respect among nations.
During the reception organized the same day, the Ambassador, referring to the importance of cooperation between countries that value independence, sovereignty, and peaceful development amid rapidly changing international conditions, expressed hope that the Honorary Consulate would serve as a platform for promoting stronger institutional ties and supporting various initiatives, thereby contributing to the further strengthening of friendship between the two peoples.
Representing Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chief of Protocol Kumar Raj Kharel and the Honorary Consul also addressed the future role of the consular office and the potential for establishing closer cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. Among the similarities between the two countries, they emphasized their ancient civilizations, vibrant democracies, strategic crossroads locations, as well as active participation in international peacekeeping missions.
The evening reception was attended by the Chief of the Army Staff of Nepal, General Ashok Raj Sigdel. Representatives of the Government of Nepal, the diplomatic corps, business circles, and media organizations were also present at the events.
