Prosecutor seeks approval to launch criminal proceedings against MP candidate Andranik Tevanyan
Armenia’s Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a motion to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) seeking approval to initiate criminal proceedings against Andranik Tevanyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Prosperous Armenia Party in the National Assembly elections scheduled for June 2026. The information has been confirmed by Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
Earlier on the same day, officers of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) carried out investigative actions at the headquarters of the Mother Armenia party, led by Tevanyan. The party’s office was reportedly searched as part of ongoing investigative measures.
The latest developments come a day after Armenia’s Investigative Committee announced that it had opened criminal proceedings against citizen A.T. – identified as Mother Armenia party leader Andranik Tevanyan – based on information received from the National Security Service.
According to the Investigative Committee, Tevanyan, who was a political figure supporting the Armenia Alliance during the 2021 parliamentary elections and was included in the alliance’s nationwide electoral list as a National Assembly candidate, allegedly began cooperating with foreign intelligence services during 2024.
Authorities claim that after being recruited by foreign special services, Tevanyan acted on instructions from a representative of foreign intelligence agencies who serves as director of the “Russia Caucasus” geopolitical center. Investigators allege that during the same period he engaged in espionage activities and illegally collected and transferred information containing state secrets.
According to the allegations, the transferred materials included Russian-language information regarding the proceedings and outcomes of a closed and classified National Assembly hearing held in April 2024. Investigators claim the information was provided in exchange for $622,000.
