French delegation led by Ile-de-France Vice President visits Armenian Genocide Memorial
A delegation led by Stephane Beaudet, Vice President of the Ile-de-France Region, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex on May 20, accompanied by France’s Ambassador to Armenia, Olivier Decottignies.
The delegation was welcomed by Hrachya Tashchyan, Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. French-speaking guide Hasmik Martirosyan accompanied the visitors through the memorial complex and presented its history and the circumstances surrounding its construction.
During the visit, Beaudet laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Other members of the delegation placed flowers near the eternal flame and observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims.
The guests also visited the Memorial Wall, where small urns containing soil taken from the graves of intellectuals, political figures and public personalities who raised their voices against the Armenian Genocide are displayed.
Martirosyan introduced the delegation to the stories of those individuals, paying particular attention to the pro-Armenian activities of French figures Anatole France and Dartige du Fournet.
The delegation also toured the Armenian Genocide Museum, and at the conclusion of the visit, Stéphane Beaudet made an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests.
