Expansion of School Feeding Program important for food security: Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia

On May 18, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan participated in and delivered an opening speech at a high-level regional event titled Sustainable Nationalization of School Feeding in the Global and Regional Context. The meeting was attended by high-level delegations from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan visiting Armenia on a technical study tour, as well as representatives of the World Food Programme’s Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, according to the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
 
In his opening remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan emphasized the importance of organizing the study visit to Armenia, highlighting the promotion of cooperation between countries and the exchange of best practices amid global challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, and supply chain disruptions.
 
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the School Feeding program is a significant example of Armenia’s best practices in the areas of social protection, child nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. He stressed the program’s role in strengthening local communities and developing more resilient food systems.
 
Robert Abisoghomonyan also praised the cooperation with the Armenian office of the World Food Programme during the development and implementation of the program. He further highlighted the program’s role in strengthening national institutional capacities, within which the Government of Armenia is currently ensuring its implementation across the regions.
