EU reaffirms support for Armenia’s European path
EU Commissioner Marta Kos has reaffirmed the European Union’s support for Armenia’s European aspirations, stating that the Armenian people alone have the right to determine the country’s future path.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on May 11, the European Commissioner for Enlargement said recent high-level engagements between the EU and Armenia demonstrated Yerevan’s commitment to closer ties with Europe. “Only the people of Armenia can decide about their future. And the last Political Community meeting and the EU-Armenia summit have shown what kind of way they want to go, and Europe will support them,” Kos said.
She added that the European Union remains attentive to regional geopolitical developments and will continue monitoring the situation closely. “Of course we are aware of the geopolitical dynamics in this area and we will follow it very carefully,” the commissioner noted.
The remarks come amid deepening cooperation between Armenia and the European Union across political, economic and democratic reform areas. Recent EU-Armenia engagements have focused on expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening resilience and supporting reforms in Armenia.
