President Vahagn Khachaturyan received the President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, Peter De Roover

President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, Peter De Roover. The President welcomed Peter De Roover in Yerevan, noting that his visit once again testifies to the cooperation based on strong friendship and mutual trust between Armenia and Belgium. He emphasized that relations between the two countries are grounded in shared values, including the protection of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The President expressed gratitude to Peter De Roover for his consistent support for Armenia and the Armenian people, as well as for his principled stance on issues important to Armenia. He also highly appreciated the involvement of Belgian political circles in supporting Armenia’s democratic reform agenda, particularly highlighting the role of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives in this regard.

“We highly value the continued support and assistance You have provided to Armenia over the years. Belgium’s role in strengthening democracy in Armenia is especially commendable. We attach importance to the further development of our cooperation,” the President stated.

In turn, Peter De Roover thanked the President for the reception and warm words, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening and developing cooperation between Armenia and Belgium.

During the meeting, reference was made to the resolution adopted by the Belgian Chamber of Representatives on April 16, 2026, aimed at strengthening the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan within the framework of the upcoming EU–Armenia and European Political Community summits in Yerevan. The President highlighted the importance of this document as a significant expression of international support for regional stability.

The interlocutors also discussed the Armenia–European Union agenda, emphasizing the progress recorded in recent years and the continuity of deepening cooperation. In this context, the dialogue on visa liberalization was highlighted, as it contributes to the implementation of European standards in several key sectors in Armenia. The President also welcomed Belgium’s decision to establish a consular section at its embassy in Yerevan, noting its importance for the development of bilateral ties.

The sides also touched upon regional developments. It was noted that following the agreements reached in Washington on August 8, 2025, the situation on the Armenia–Azerbaijan border has become more stable and predictable, creating additional opportunities to advance the peace process.
