Armenia improves position in Economic Freedom Index, ranks ahead of several EU countries

Armenia has improved its standing in the global Index of Economic Freedom, moving up five positions compared to last year, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan announced, citing the latest report by The Heritage Foundation.

According to the index, Armenia ranks 52nd among 176 countries worldwide. In 2025, the country was ranked 57th with a score of 65.4, marking a notable improvement in its overall performance.

Papoyan highlighted that Armenia now ranks ahead of several European Union member states, including Spain (53rd), Romania (58th), France (65th), Italy (73rd), Greece (75th), and Hungary (79th).

Within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenia holds the leading position in terms of economic freedom.

The index ranks Singapore, Switzerland, and Ireland as the world’s top performers.

The Index of Economic Freedom evaluates countries based on multiple criteria, including the rule of law, government size, regulatory efficiency, and market openness.

According to the minister, the progress reflects the effectiveness of ongoing economic reforms in Armenia and is expected to further enhance the country’s investment climate.
