Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the official groundbreaking ceremony for a new youth sports complex named after world-renowned professional boxer Arthur Abraham. The ceremony, held in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan, was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan, and the Chairman of the Urban Development Committee Yeghiazar Vardanyan.
The new sports complex is being constructed under the coordination of the Urban Development Committee on land originally acquired by Arthur Abraham years ago. During the event, the Prime Minister and the champion boxer signed a symbolic message addressed to future generations, which was then placed into the foundations of the building by Abraham and a group of young athletes.
The architectural plan for the complex includes two main structures featuring one underground and three above-ground floors. The first building will house specialized gyms for boxing and wrestling along with general training halls, locker rooms, saunas, and medical and massage rooms. The second building is designed to accommodate a basketball hall and administrative offices. The Government of Armenia has allocated 2.3 billion AMD for the completion of the project.
In his address, Prime Minister Pashinyan congratulated those present and expressed his confidence that the facility would be completed on time and to a high standard of quality. He noted that this project is part of a larger governmental strategy to honor Armenian athletes who have achieved international success while fostering sports development and healthy lifestyles throughout the country. The Prime Minister also mentioned that following the opening of the Simon Martirosyan school, the government plans to break ground on another facility named after Roman and Malkhas Amoyan in Alagyaz this coming May.
