Trump: US Navy will begin escorting tankers through Strait of Hormuz if necessary

Following the start of the US and Israeli military campaign against Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced its closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and threatened to burn ships trying to bypass it.

The Strait of Hormuz is the world's most important oil export route, connecting the largest oil producers in the Persian Gulf—namely Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates—with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, Reuters recalls
