It means doing everything to ensure TRIPP suddenly doesn’t work: Alen Simonyan on the possibility of Russia joining TRIPP
TRIPP is an Armenian-American organization. If we are talking about opening some similar route or corridor, in my view it should be a separate initiative of some kind; but within the framework of TRIPP, I consider it somewhat absurd.
This is what the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, said in an interview
with Factor.am, responding to the question of whether, during Alen Simonyan’s visit to Russia, the possibility of Russia joining TRIPP might be discussed there. “It means doing everything to ensure that TRIPP suddenly doesn’t work,” Simonyan said.
It should be noted that Alen Simonyan will be in Russia on an official visit on February 5-6. “The visit is at the invitation of my colleague, Ms. Valentina Matviyenko, and a meeting with her is planned, as well as a meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation,” Alen Simonyan noted.
By way of reminder, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, had stated that Russia is ready to participate in the TRIPP project. “We confirm our readiness to explore possible options for joining the project, including taking into account the unique experience of Russian Railways. But first and foremost, it is necessary to become familiar with all the details of the implementation and operation of
this initiative. As we understand it, it is at an initial stage. Our proposal to Yerevan to hold
thematic consultations with the participation of all interested agencies remains in force,”
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
stated.
