Trump has talked about annexing Greenland, Canada and Venezuela to the United States

 

US President Donald Trump joked about Canada, Greenland and Venezuela joining the United States during a dinner on Saturday. His words were quoted by the American newspaper Washington Post. "We are not going to invade Greenland. We are going to buy it. I never intended to make Greenland the 51st state.

I want to make Canada the 51st state. Greenland will be the 52nd, and Venezuela can become the 53rd," the article quotes the president as saying. The author of the article notes that Trump has referred to the topic of US territorial expansion many times. Later, the president sarcastically added that he would have to cut short his speech in order to watch the American "invasion" of Greenland live.
 
Greenland belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark, but US President Donald Trump has repeatedly reiterated that the island should become part of the United States, referring to its strategic importance for national security.
 
The American leader has refused to promise that he will not use military force to assert control over Greenland.
