Azerbaijan has begun gas supplies to Austria and Germany
“Gas supplies to Austria and Germany have started as of January 2026” - the company’s press service reported. SOCAR did not disclose the duration or volume of the supplies.
On December 31, 2020, Azerbaijan began commercial gas deliveries to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which is part of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC). The pipeline, designed for 25 years, envisages the export of more than 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually to the European market.
The SGC, which stretches from Baku to Southern Italy through Georgia, Turkey, Greece, and Albania, is an integrated pipeline system that also includes the South Caucasus Pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline. Its capacity is 16 billion cubic meters per year. Azerbaijan’s “Shah Deniz” gas field, with reserves of 1.2 trillion cubic meters, is considered the main source of feedstock for the SGC.
