The use of smartphones and other electronic devices has been banned in 143 of Yerevan’s 151 schools (video)
At the initiative of the Mayor of Yerevan, the use of smartphones and other electronic devices has been banned in 143 of Yerevan’s 151 community schools, the Yerevan Municipality reports.
The ban is enshrined in the educational institutions’ internal disciplinary rules.
“Such initiatives have long proven their effectiveness in many countries. Studies have shown that restricting phones during class increases students’ academic performance by an average of 6-14%. In addition, even the mere presence of a phone if it is not being used reduces attention levels, whereas under restrictions students are able to focus for longer and concentrate better.
The use of smart devices is permitted only for educational purposes, on the teacher’s instruction, for using QR codes in textbooks,” the statement says.
