The Middle Corridor should become a reliable alternative to other routes: EU
The European Union is firmly determined to turn the Trans-Caspian transport route, also known as the Middle Corridor, into a reliable long-term alternative to the Northern Route. EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated this in an interview with Azerbaijani media.
“The Middle Corridor brings geopolitical and economic benefits to all the countries along this route, consisting of an interlinked network of railways and ports that connect China, Central Asia, the South Caucasus and the Black Sea to Europe,” the Commissioner said.
According to her, the volume of freight transported via the Middle Corridor has already quadrupled since 2022. “By 2030 it may triple again, if investments are properly directed toward increasing its capacity and eliminating ‘bottlenecks’. Investments in transport infrastructure create more opportunities for digital and energy access and reduce the risk of blackmail,” Kos noted.
