Mertz criticized the US boycott of the G20 summit

 
 

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz criticized the decision of the US authorities to boycott the G20 summit held in Johannesburg.

 
"I think that the decision not to be here was not a good decision by the American government. However, the American government itself should know this," said Mertz at the press conference held after the event. "It's good for us that we were here," he added. The chancellor also said that the USA was practically not mentioned at the summit.
 
The United States boycotted the current summit due to disagreement with its agenda. The USA will assume the position of the president of the "20" on December 1, 2025, for 12 months. US President Donald Trump announced that the G20 summit will be held in Florida in 2026.
