The development of e-commerce is of strategic importance for Armenia։ Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry

On 20 November, a workshop on “Approximation of E-commerce Legislation” was held with the participation of Ruben Simonyan, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia. This was reported by the Ministry of High-Tech Industry.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister thanked the European Union (EU) for organizing the workshop within the framework of the EU-funded programme “Support to Monitoring, Implementation and Communication of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).” He emphasized that the development of e-commerce is of strategic importance for Armenia in terms of expanding economic potential, increasing competitiveness and fully integrating into digital markets.

“Cooperation between Armenia and the EU is not limited to the regulation of e-commerce; it also encompasses broad areas such as the digital economy, innovation infrastructure, scientific research programmes, as well as education and human capital development,” Ruben Simonyan noted, adding that these initiatives contribute to the formation of a competitive digital ecosystem in Armenia, stimulate the growth of SMEs’ innovation capacity, strengthen cooperation between science and industry and accelerate Armenia’s integration into the pan-European digital and innovation markets.

During the event, participants were presented with the main objectives and provisions of the draft Law “On E-commerce.” During the discussions, a number of issues related to the applicability of the draft, potential challenges and sector-specific features were clarified.
