The Severe Consequences of Poverty
Civilized countries, countries with a healthy political elite are doing everything possible to reduce the number of poor people down to zero. And this aspiration is not an end in itself. The poor population is a convenient target for all kinds of evil forces. For the sake of quick money, a poor person is ready to do anything.
A poor person is also ready to take part in elections and vote in favor of this or that party or alliance for a certain amount of money. The former authorities of Armenia knew very well that their main support base was precisely the poor population. When election day came they would distribute a certain amount of money, people would vote for them and then through a mild increase in prices they would take that money back from the poor with high interest, at that.
Today as well, the poor population in our country are a hidden threat. They are again waiting for that moment when, before the voting day, money will be handed out to them. And how they are waiting. The greatest failure of the current authorities is also that they have not managed to overcome poverty. No matter how much you tell a poor person that poverty is “in your head,” they will not escape the grip of poverty. They must be forced to get out of it by creating an appropriate environment.
And now before the nationwide elections, it is precisely the poor who are the main target of many alliances and parties. The authorities are now obliged to do everything possible to prevent any distribution of money and gifts.
The story of Achajur is very telling: once they found a convenient target, they decided to distribute football uniforms to children with their logo on them. Naturally, children cannot take part in competitions wearing those uniforms, but…
